about the Cover

In the spirit of HCBA President Amanda Uliano’ s year-long theme of Connections, we are highlighting on the cover of the magazine the various ways that our region is connected. First up, we feature one of Tampa Bay’ s four bridges, the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Opened on June 28, 1933, the 9.9-mile Courtney Campbell Causeway connects Tampa and Clearwater, acting as the first direct link across Old Tampa Bay. Designed and financed by Ben T. Davis to replace slow ferry services, the former private toll road dramatically accelerated regional commerce and tourism.
