In the last edition of Lawyer Magazine, I wrote about the opportunities of the New Year. And did 2026 sure come out of the gate hot. Or maybe cold, if you were watching outdoor hockey in Tampa bundled up in all the winter gear you could muster or braving the wind and rain at Gasparilla. With so much going on, I wanted to take this time to talk about something we never talk about enough, and that is lawyer mental health.
Whether you are embattled in high stakes litigation, trying to finalize a big deal before a closing, or trying to manage your own law practice, being an attorney is stressful. Add in a world that seems to be coming at us faster with constant news that is very rarely about a cute
pet that was lost and then found, it can be pretty easy to find ourselves in a negative place.
If you have heard me speak about mental health before, I do not believe that there is a one-size fits all approach. Our diversity as people and a legal community makes us all have different experiences and in turn react differently. It is a great strength that we are not all cookie-cutter lawyers.
However, we can certainly find some common grounds as to generating healthy habits that can be useful in times of heightened stress. Maybe it is taking a break in the afternoon, just to go for a walk and get away from your computer screen. Getting exercise, eating healthier, and
