The HCBA Criminal Law Section, in partnership with the Hispanic Bar Association( THBA), the george Edgecomb Bar Association( gEBA), and the Hillsborough Association of Women Lawyers( HAWL), are working together to host a Free Expungement Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, from 10 a. m. to 12 p. m.
The expungement clinic is being held to help eligible citizens of Hillsborough County expunge criminal history records under Section 943.0585, Florida Statutes. The expungement clinic is so very important, because it will literally change lives! As we all know, people who have a criminal record on average cannot find employment, and if they do, are paid less. Also, most housing applications require
applicants to not have a criminal record. This is why expunging a person’ s criminal record is so very important. Yet most people, especially in this economy, cannot afford the application process and fees on their own to expunge their criminal records. Therefore, this is a Call To Action! We need all your help! The cost per person, with judgment and sentencing fees, is estimated to be around $ 85.00 per person. We are still in very much need of sponsors and have several levels of sponsorships available. If your firm is interested in sponsoring, please see the form on the HCBA website at www. hillsbar. com / group / CrIM and look up expungement clinic.
We are also seeking volunteer attorneys and law students. All who volunteer will receive Pro Bono
credit hours. On hand to assist at the clinic will be the Clerk’ s Office staff, the State Attorney’ s Office of the 13th Judicial Circuit, and the Office of the Public Defender for the 13th Judicial Circuit. We are also still seeking law enforcement volunteers to assist with security, and with fingerprinting, which is required by the FDLE form. The sign-up to volunteer can be found on the HCBA website.
Please help us change the lives of the citizens of Hillsborough County by joining us in sponsorship and by volunteering in this life-changing effort. You will be so glad you did! n
