Appellate Practice Section Chairs: ­David­Costello­ – Boies­Schiller­Flexner­LLP­ & ­Dimitri­Peteves­ – Creed­ & ­Gowdy, ­P. A.

They say“ the days are long, but the years are short.” That surely is true of my time as co-chair of our Appellate Practice Section. It seems like only yesterday that Joe Eagleton and Chance Lyman passed the torch to me. Like them, I’ ve cherished every moment as appellate co-chair. But it has come time for me to hand that torch to a fresh face.

That will be hard to do, mainly because of the people I’ ve had the pleasure to work with during my tenure. Brandon Breslow exemplified excellence as co-chair. Dimitri Peteves continued that tradition without missing a beat. John Kynes, Monique Lawson, and
Laurie rideout took every administrative headache off our plates. The local bench dedicated their time and talents to enrich our programming. And of course, our passionate and collegial members made it a joy to plan and attend every section meeting.

The section’ s future remains bright. Dimitri Peteves will be staying on as co-chair, and a new face will soon join him
we accomplished. Over the past three years, our section has not once missed a Lawyer magazine submission( thanks largely to the contributions of our energetic membership). And our presentations have explored a diverse array of topics, from surveying advanced oral argument techniques, to
( stay tuned for that announcement!). That new dynamic appellate duo will focus on finding creative ways to mitigate the cost of our events for government lawyers and judicial branch employees. They’ ll also be brainstorming ways to join forces with the St. Pete Bar’ s appellate section, particularly once the
assessing how technology can
elevate appellate briefs, to debating
