In his remarks, Schifino, who also is a Metro board member, said Marks began volunteering with the organization after leaving a corporate finance job in Boston and moving to Tampa.
Schifino shared how Marks’ journey with the organization began with a“ calling to help the homeless.”
Schifino lauded Marks’ visionary leadership, and he talked about Metro’ s growth and expanded reach and impact in the community, providing more than 3.3 million meals and 150,000 nights of shelter last year alone. Concluding his remarks, Schifino said,“ What we really need is more people like Tim Marks.”
In accepting the award, Marks said he was very“ humbled” to be included on the list of esteemed past award winners, and he expressed gratitude and thanked attendees for their continued support of Metropolitan Ministries.

Also at the Law Day Luncheon, 2nd DCA Judge Edward Larose presented the HCBA’ s 2025 Margaret D. Mathews Mentoring Award to Amy Farrior, who is with the firm Buell Elligett Farrior & Faircloth, P. A.
The prestigious award recognizes an individual who has achieved excellence in his or her own legal career; has served as a mentor; has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of young lawyers; and who encourages meaningful involvement in the Tampa Bay community.
* * * Meantime, the Law Day Luncheon marked the unofficial end to the 2024-25 Bar Year.
And under the outstanding leadership of President nino Martino and dedicated HCBA Board members, it has been an exciting and eventful year for sure.
From the 27th Annual Bench Bar Conference this past november; the annual Judicial Food Festival and 5K Pro Bono river run this March; and all the other engaging luncheons and CLEs, there was something for everyone.
And that does not include all the other outstanding events put on by the HCBA’ s superb Young Lawyers Division, which was ably led by nicole gehringer.
Looking ahead, I am confident incoming HCBA President Matt Hall and incoming YLD President Amanda Keller will continue build on the foundation that has made the HCBA the wonderful organization it is today.
Here’ s hoping everyone has a great rest of the summer. n
