mentoring new attorneys, and ensuring the HCBA reflects the values and needs of the community we represent.
What makes our bar strong is the wide range of perspectives our leaders bring. Some have decades of experience. Others are just starting out. All bring fresh energy, commitment, and ideas. You don’ t need a long résumé to lead— just a desire to serve and a vision for improvement.
I know that when the demands of practice are pressing, bar elections can feel like just another item on the to-do list. But the truth is, our organization thrives when members are engaged— not just in attending events or joining committees, but in helping choose who will guide us forward.
Even if this year’ s voting has already closed by the time you read this, I encourage you to look ahead. Think about the role you want to play in the next election cycle— whether that means casting your vote, nominating a colleague, or running for a position yourself.
If you’ ve ever said,“ The bar should do more of X,” or“ I wish we focused more on Y,” consider this your call to action. Whether your passion is pro bono work,
mental health, mentor ship, innovation, or inclusion— there’ s a place for your leadership.
We want our leadership to reflect the diversity of our membership— in background, experience, age, and perspective. Every new voice that steps forward makes us stronger.
This past year, we’ ve reached milestones that were only possible because of our engaged, committed members. We’ ve expanded member benefits, strengthened mentorship opportunities, hosted impactful CLEs, and advanced access to justice initiatives. None of this happened by chance. It took plan ning, teamwork, and leadership.
Now, we prepare to pass the baton. What the next year holds depends on who chooses to lead— and who gets involved early.
So even if this year’ s ballots are in, it’ s never too early to start thinking about the next opportunity to serve. Leadership isn’ t about titles— it’ s about showing up, listening, solving problems, and making a difference.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president. It has been an honor— and I look forward to seeing where our next leaders will take us.
