attorneys and the legal system can have on a community . In this day , who can ’ t get behind that ?
The HCBA ’ s current Bar Leadership Institute Class provides an update on what they have experienced so far . As a graduate of BLI , I may be a bit biased , but I think the experience the program provides in learning about our community in greater depth is incomparable . I know there are other leadership organizations in the area that have similar programs , but the leaders of the BLI program are consistently able to tap into wonderful and enriching resources .
And speaking of a focus on the community , please check out the Community Services Committee article . It details an upcoming community service opportunity the Committee has coordinated with an organization that paints the homes of in-need elderly residents in the community . This is a wonderful one-day event that will take place on Saturday , April 26 . I hope you can make it !
In the same spirit , the article from the Senior Counsel Section is a call to action and a call to service for attorneys to volunteer with Crossroads for Florida Kids . Crossroads is a brilliant organization providing much needed services to at-risk youth .
Jared Krukar and Alison Schwartz ’ s interview with retiring Second district Court of Appeal Judge darryl Casanueva is a fascinating perspective from one of the Second dCA ’ s longest-serving members . I especially was interested in his take on the one of the biggest challenges facing the appellate judiciary today . one benefit of this publication is having attorneys who are subject matter authorities discuss recent developments in their area of law . The Construction Law , Labor and Employment Law , Workers ’ Compensation , and Criminal Law Sections all have articles on recent court decisions that will impact those practice areas , reminding practitioners of some of the foundational concepts that continue to be the central issue on which the cases turn . In addition , the Health Care Law Section has an update regarding proposed rulemaking around federal regulations surrounding patient data , and the Marital and Family Law Section reviews changes to Florida Statutes regarding dependent adult children . All of these articles help keep our members up-to-date on developments in their practice area .
Meanwhile , the Trial & Litigation Section , the Technology Section , and the Solo & Small Firm Section all have articles on one of the most pressing and hottest legal topics out there — the use and integration into our practices of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models .
Finally , Judge Michael Baggé-Hernández has penned an article about a recent visit from members of the Chilean judiciary who came to observe the administration of small claims cases in Hillsborough County as a potential model for their own court system . once again , our judges and our lawyers are leading by their efforts and their example ! n
