dedicating a portion of your time to helping those who cannot afford legal representation during this difficult period . Whether it ’ s assisting with property insurance claims , landlord-tenant disputes , or navigating disaster relief programs , your efforts can change the trajectory of someone ’ s recovery .
In particular , many individuals and families will need help interpreting FEMA regulations , determining whether repairs or rebuilding are feasible , or understanding the legal implications of contracts related to rebuilding . By offering pro bono services , we ensure that those who need legal assistance the most are not left behind .
I also want to highlight the Florida Bar ’ s YLD Disaster Relief Hotline , which provides free legal assistance to disaster survivors . The number is 833-514-2940 . This is an excellent opportunity for our members to contribute to the broader statewide effort to provide legal guidance to those affected by these hurricanes . You don ’ t have to be a specialist in disaster law to make a difference — what matters is the willingness to help .
The Importance of Collaboration
One of the strengths of our profession is the ability to collaborate . No one attorney can handle the weight of this disaster alone , but together , we are a formidable force . I encourage you to connect with your colleagues , pool resources , and work together to serve our community . Whether it ’ s sharing expertise on particular areas of law , coordinating relief efforts , or forming teams to tackle complex legal issues , we can achieve far more as a united Bar .
The Hillsborough County Bar Association is here to support you in these efforts . Our network is vast , and our members are diverse in their skills and experiences . Let ’ s use that diversity to our advantage and ensure that no one in our community feels abandoned in their time of need .
Looking Forward with Optimism and Strength
Despite the destruction left by Helene and Milton , I am confident that we will emerge stronger as a community . Hillsborough County is resilient , and so are its people . As lawyers , we have the opportunity — and the responsibility — to contribute to the rebuilding process . The work we do in the coming weeks and months will have a lasting impact on the future of our community , and I believe that each of us is up to the task .
This is a time for courage , compassion , and unwavering commitment to the values that brought us into this profession . Let ’ s rise to the occasion , support our neighbors , and lead by example . Together , we can help restore not only homes and businesses but also the hope and strength that define Hillsborough County .
Thank you for your dedication and for the work you will do in the coming days . Our community is counting on us , and I know we won ’ t let them down . n
