A2021 concluded , the Hillsborough County Bar Leadership Institute Class continued its programming with modules hosted by Tampa attorneys practicing in federal law enforcement and the Tampa Port .
On November 2 , the BLI Class met via Zoom with the FBI ’ s Chief Division Counsel for the Tampa Field Office , Jim Greene . Greene is a Stetson Law graduate who generously donated his lunch hour to explain how his career path led him to his role as an agent-attorney with the FBI . Though he began his career in private practice doing transactional work for land
developers , Greene also completed an internship with the FBI ’ s Chief Division Counsel in Tampa . Greene would later become his successor .
Greene explained the process to become an FBI agent-attorney , which differed greatly from becoming an attorney , though both skillsets help him in his role today . To become an FBI agent , Greene had to complete the application process , including a polygraph test . He then proceeded to agent training at FBI Headquarters in Quantico , Virginia . The training lasted about 16-20 weeks . Training included courses in different areas , such as firearms , defensive tactics , and practical training .
After training , Greene was assigned to the Washington Field Office as part of the counterterrorism squad . Greene drafted policies on how the government should screen for terrorists in a post-9 / 11 world .
In 2009 , Greene applied for a transfer to Tampa . As Chief General Counsel , Greene spends his time assisting agents with opening cases and ensuring that all federal laws and regulations are followed during investigations . He also assists the U . S . Attorney in prosecuting cases . Greene candidly hoped that some of the BLI Class members might
