tremendous impact on your health by improving sleep , cognition , and focus . It also reduces stress over time and teaches you to pause before you have an emotional outburst .
5 . Start moving again — Of course , make sure to move into the new year . Exercise is important because our bodies are made to move , and when they get too sedentary , they start to wear out . Many of us sat around for months during quarantine , so it may take some extra effort to start a routine again . A great way to get going is with the annual 5K Pro Bono River Run , which takes place in scenic downtown Tampa as detailed on page 20 .
6 . Last , consider adopting a growth mindset — where you are constantly learning new skills , obtaining new information , or starting new hobbies . These activities help your brain stay youthful and make life more interesting . For some great new information , there are many interesting articles in this edition of the magazine . As litigators in state court know , Florida courts have once again adopted the federal standard for summary judgment motions . The Appellate Section offers tips on making sure you get it right when you file on page 22 . The Mediation and Arbitration Section reminds us that almost every circuit in Florida now requires non-binding arbitration as part of the case management plan on page 46 .
For an interesting historical read , check out the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee ’ s deep dive into a case involving Jackie Robinson — the first African-American baseball player in the major leagues . Before joining the majors , he was a servicemember facing a court-martial for refusing to give up his seat on a bus as described on page 50 . And the Professionalism Committee reminds us to be clear in our communications with clients , especially since so many of us rely on digital forms of communication , including voicemail , email , and now videoconference on page 54 .
