I made a mistake. Mistakes help me learn better. I look forward to watching your children grow this year. Fondly, Ms. Valley Mrs. Neiman: Room 4 has been so busy during the past few months getting acclimated to Kindergarten. The transition has been relatively smooth with only a few bumps. Those bumps are getting smaller; each day is easier and easier on the children. Kindergarten is long and tiring day for everyone! Room 4’s Kindergarten classroom is full of wonder and delight. The children have been actively reading, writing, and learning numbers. The children have a strong foundation and are beginning to build their literacy and numeracy skills. I am amazed at their growth since September. By the end of October, we have mastered letters and sounds for 11 letters. We can read 14 sight words. In math, the children are playing with the numbers 0-10 (adding the, writing them, building them, and counting on from them). It’s a busy classroom! Please continue to work on the literacy and numeracy skills at home. It is a huge part to your child’s academic and social development. Kindergarten is a crazy and fun place! Miss Ricci: "Teacher’s who love teaching, teach students who love learning." I developed my love for learning right here in Enfield. I received all of my schooling here and am happy to be a part of the system as a professional. In room 5, at Hazardville Memorial, we focus on developing a love for learning. We laugh, smile, give praise, help, care and encourage each other each day. The words "I can't" are replaced with "I'll try". Students in room five know they are required to try, to be kind and to be safe. These three things will promote a healthy learning environment. I am excited to witness the journey your child has started this year! They will amaze you every day! Thank you for your ongoing support! FIRST GRADE Mrs. Venoutsos: The students in Room 11 have adjusted to first grade routines and expectations! We are working on being safe, kind, respectful and willing to learn throughout the school day. Ask your child about appropriate behavior in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and bus. They are experts at demonstrating what they need to do as a result of our school-wide PBIS program! The first graders are on their way to becoming outstanding readers and writers. They are learning strategies to use when reading independently to help them understand what they read. In Writer’s Workshop, students are bringing their small moment stories to life by adding action and dialogue to their characters. In math, students are using problem solving skills to help them solve addition and subtraction problems, as well as working on core numeracy skills daily! Lastly, one of the students’ favorite learning blocks each week is our LEGO time. The first graders have been working collaboratively with our new LEGO kits to problem-solve about various Social Studies and math topics. The students in Room 11 have had a busy and exciting transition into first grade. I am proud of how far they have come already, and cannot wait to see them tackle character traits, how-to books, and addition/subtraction within 20 in the coming months! Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home!
