ADDITIONAL HELP
Eligible Hawthorne students may also get extra out-of-classroom, small group instruction in reading, math, or both. Instruction in English as a Second Language is also available.
GIFTED AND TALENTED
The Teaneck Academically Gifted Program( TAG) will provide an enriching, rigorous, varied and continuous curriculum with differentiated learning opportunities for all students based on their multiple intelligences. At the elementary level, the goal of TAG is to nurture students to find their giftedness. All students will be introduced to the Junior Great Books program to explore higher-level thinking and will receive math enrichment in their classrooms with support from the TAG teachers. In fourth grade, TAG students will participate in multidisciplinary seminars, lead by the TAG teacher. In the fall, all fourth grade students will take a cognitive abilities test. The results of the cognitive abilities test, along with the NJ ASK results, teacher and parent recommendations, and portfolio assessments will identify students for participation in the middle school TAG program. Further information regarding the TAG program is available from Amber Halpern, TAG Teacher, at ahalpern @ teaneckschools. org.
