Hawthorne School Parent-Student Handbook 2016-2017 parent will participate in and support the classroom activities and will maintain confidentiality regarding individual children‘s progress. Praise good behavior and correct any inappropriate behavior. Parents are required not to use their cell phones while volunteering or working with children. CLASSROOM VISITS Hawthorne School has established the following observation guidelines in an effort to maintain uninterrupted instruction and to protect confidentiality of our students.  Parents must first contact the teacher and request that a professional observation be scheduled in the classroom.  The classroom teacher will suggest two times for observation. An administrator or designee may be present throughout the observation.  Classroom observations are limited to 20 minutes or less.  Observation will be confirmed by classroom teacher, administrator and professional.  On the day of the observation, the professional visitor must sign in at the office before visiting the classroom, obtain a visitor‘s badge, obtain an observation form and be escorted by the administrator/designee.  Please be prompt, as tardiness, will impact the scheduled observation time.  Professionals will remain seated in the back of the room. Observers may not engage in conversation with the teacher or students during the observation.  At the close of the observation, the professional will return to the school office to sign out/return badge and observation form. 13
