Our unsung heroes,
people making a difference

On Saturday the 15th of May the Riverstone
Community took part in a great celebration of
community spirit, some without even knowing.
This festival has become part of our social
networking and celebration of community
talents, it is also an opportunity for Riverstone
Neighbourhood Centre to strut their stuff, as
one person so aptly put it.
Have you ever stopped to think about just
how much time and effort goes into making
this event happen each year? Well this year I
attended a few of the festival meetings with
the people that organise this event and I was
astonished with
what this small
community group
accomplishes with
little or no help.
It made me
think about the
unsung heroes in
the Community
that improve
our lives and the
way we interact
with others in
our community
on a daily basis.
These events are
diamonds in the
Community as they
bring together
100’s of people to
laugh, talk and celebrate all the positives that
make life worthwhile.
Looking around the grounds on the day of
the event I could see many interactions that
went unseen by many, but had a direct effect
on the day’s success. The men’s shed who
had organised a BBQ lunch for the volunteers
that helped on the day, were very much
appreciated, not only by the volunteers, but by
the families of young children who were hungry
and didn’t want to wait in the long queue, a
sausage sandwich went down a treat and filled
the bellies of those ravenous little people.
