e // lif le sty a day in the life of... Nicholas Noel // Director of the Richmond Players latest production, Oklahoma! By Penny Webb dad moved to Windsor Downs ten years to start raising lowline cattle. He fell in love with the area and discovered The Richmond Players, where he exercises his creativity most recently as the Director of Oklahoma. Nicholas is a busy dad to 18 month old William and husband to wife, Samantha. From Penrith, he got to know the Hawkesbury a little better when his mum and 0600 Early start. I get Will up and watch some high quality children’s television! Personally I love Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom the crew. Start herding the cast into getting ready themselves, followed by a singing warm up with the musical director and cast. 0700 First cup of coffee for the day - my own concoction of caramel latte and Milo – and family breakfast time 1300 Make sure the cast are getting ready (again - it’s like herding cats), place props backstage and check in with individual cast members to discuss certain notes or issues from the previous show. 0800 Shower, shave and get dressed. I make sure to bring one outfit for getting the stage ready and one for wearing at shows. Need to come across as vaguely professional looking! 0900 Start getting things ready for the musical, including checking props are together, organising notebook and libretto. 1000 Pack the car, say goodbye to Will and Sam and head out to Richmond School Of Arts. 1100 Arrive at Richmond, and firstly wander around the local fresh market – get a coffee, check the delicious fruit and veg, then buy some jerky or something sweet! A bit too on edge to eat a proper lunch. 1200 Open the hall, set the stage and discuss any technical issues with 1400 Matinee begins! Sit back and breathe a sigh of relief and watch this absolutely smashing cast put on a cracker of a show. 1500 Wander around backstage in the intermission and discuss any action points from the first half of the show. I give them a little gee up and get the energy building. Covertly listen in on patrons discussing aspects of the show. 1600 The Second Act begins and I breathe a second sigh of relief and enjoy the show 1700 Matinee finishes up so I chat through the show with some of the interested people who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Congratulate the cast on a great show and send them off to eat dinner. This month, Nicholas gives us a snapshot into what his day is like in the middle of a busy performance schedule on show day. Get everyone fired up for another great show. Not get a seat to see it myself because there’s too many people. Climb up into the tech box and help work the sound/microphones 2200 Show finishes for the evening. I tidy up the stage, clear up the hall, lights out and lock up. Chat to people and discuss some of the finer details of the show with interested people 2000 Another smashing show ! I wander around the audience at intermission and chat to people I know who recognise me from the program. Visit the cast out the back and congratulate them on the energy! It’s tough to keep that energy going for two shows. 2300 Finally leave! Drive home, poke my nose in on Will and try not to wake him up. Crash out in bed after a HUGE day. 2100 Second Act begins.
