It went along with the old saying “she’ll be right mate” and “I’m O.K mate, don’t worry about me”. Although through education and information men’s attitude towards their health has changed, busy life style has become the new hurdle. We all recognise how difficult it can be to make time for our health and wellbeing in busy everyday lives, but despite the barriers and obstacles to better health that life puts in the way, we also need to make the most of opportunities that come our way. One of these opportunities is Mens Health Week which is held every year in June. Mens Health week provides many opportunities to take time and reflect on personal Health and Wellness and the surrounding issues in our lives that are causing problems , all we need to do is pass the word along to make the community aware of what is available. This year’s theme for Mens Health ‘MoMENts In Time’ will be held between June 15-21 and enc ourages us to make time for healthier men, boys and families (www.menshealthweek.org. au) Another opportunity for our men of the future is the National Boy’s Health Forum: Building A Stronger Future For Our Boys - Sydney - NSW - May 28 entre is free ( http://www.topblokes. org.au ). This event presents three critical social issues: family violence, mental health and social well-being. The National Boy’s Health Forum will present the latest research that demonstrates how these issues can improve by addressing young male social health and welfare. This will be followed by a panel discussion on how changes in government, education and business can improve the state of family violence, mental health and other social barriers affecting Australian young men. Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre Men’s shed programs and the projects that the men have taken part in have made an extraordinary difference to their lives and others in the Community. This year during that time Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre in partnership with members of the WSMARS (Western Sydney men and relationship network) will be holding a special Mens health and education event in the grounds of the Community garden at Riverstone on Thursday 18 June 10.30am – 2.00pm. This will be a great opportunity for both Community and services that address the needs of men’s health. We will also be launching the 2015 edition of the “Blokes Book”, what a great resource, over 60 pages filled with information and services to assist men with better live choices to improve their lives. A Men’s health Pitstop will also be available on the day as well as guest speaker John Walker speaking on men and depression, Motorcycle display, Information stalls service providers who support men and relationships finished off with delicious BBQ lunch provided. WHAT A GREAT DAY! If you would like more information or would like to be part of the event, please contact Leah at Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre on 96273219.
