bird photography tourism venture that’ s already attracting clients from across Australia and overseas.
“ Clients give me a list of birds they’ d like to photograph, and I take them to the right habitats,” he said.“ Trips run over four to six days and they’ ve been really popular.”
He’ s also developing regional workshops, guiding enthusiasts to some of NSW’ s best bird habitats.

“ Making a living from photography wasn’ t on my radar until I was 40,” Martin said.
After finishing his HSC, he worked in electrical sales before completing a Bachelor of Multimedia at Southern Cross University.
In his early thirties, however, life took a tougher turn.
“ I was diagnosed with major depression and anxiety and spent five or six years pretty much a hermit at home,” he shared.
That period, though difficult, marked the beginning of something new.
“ I got a point-and-shoot camera for my 30th birthday and started photographing

insects in the backyard – spiders, ants, weevils. I was fascinated by their world.” That curiosity soon turned into creativity.
“ I began using the camera to magnify them, and before long I was selling those images to artists who painted them.”

“ As I started getting back out into the world, I shifted from insects to birds – and that quickly became my passion.”
As Aristotle once said, happiness is not just pleasure, but the flourishing of one’ s potential. For Martin, that rings true.“ Photography won’ t make me a rich man,” he said,“ but it’ s given me a rich life with my family.”
And really, you can’ t argue with that.
