LIFE & STYLE

GigPig goes the whole hog by Greg Martin

Western Sydney’ s“ Mister Music”, Windsor’ s Dave Wilkins, may have just hit the right note with a new idea set to strike a chord with live music lovers everywhere.
With decades of experience behind him- performing in bands, managing artists both locally and internationally, and promoting countless gigs- Dave knows the music industry inside out. Now, he’ s channelled that knowledge into a new venture: a user-friendly app designed to connect audiences with live music. Enter GigPig.“ I’ ve called it GigPig, and it’ s a musthave app for anyone searching for live performances,” Dave said.
The app is a one-stop gig guide, offering everything music fans need to know- venues, locations, performers, dates, and genres, from rock and jazz to blues and tribute acts.
“ GigPig is a location-based entertainment app that helps you find gigs near you,” Dave explained.“ You can also search other locations, filter by genre, artist, or date, or simply discover something new.”
Importantly, the platform isn’ t just for fans. Artists, bands, DJs and venues can subscribe and upload their gig details, making themselves easily discoverable through the app’ s“ Find A Gig Near You” feature.
The response so far has been strong, with venues and promoters already
taking up free three-month trial listings.
“ I’ m confident the app will be warmly welcomed by anyone with a passion for live music,” Dave said.“ Venues will also appreciate the affordability. Traditional advertising- whether print, radio, online or TV- is becoming increasingly expensive, so GigPig offers a cost-effective alternative.”
Available via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, GigPig is already building momentum- and there’ s more to come.
Your favourite magazine is proud to support the venture, with plans to feature local gig listings across the Hawkesbury, Blacktown and Hills editions.
Dave’ s passion for music dates back to childhood, picking up guitar and piano at just eight years old. Over the years, he’ s performed alongside some of the industry’ s biggest names, including Kris Kristofferson, Wendy Matthews, Diesel,

Shannon Noll and Russell Crowe.
Closer to home, he’ s played a key role in staging major local events such as the Sydney Blues & Roots Festival, Dinner by The River, Rock the Racecourse and the Hawkesbury Flood Relief Concert, alongside promoter partner Jarryd Faint.
In the past year alone, Dave has also worked on tours with The Church, Crash Test Dummies, Andrew Strong, The Sweet and Boney M. So what sparked the idea for GigPig?“ During COVID, when I was out of work, my good mate Rob‘ The Duck’ Smith invited me to join him on his weekly radio show on 2GB and other stations nationwide to present a gig guide,” Dave said.
“ Four years later, I’ m still doing it every Thursday night at around 9.35pm- and that’ s really what inspired GigPig.”
With everything now in one place, the app promises to make finding live music easier than ever.
And if you love a good night out- well, you’ d be mad not to jump on GigPig.
