Paul“ Spyda” Whyte was a proud member of the Thin Blue Line for over three decades.
Sergeant, finishing his final nine years in charge of the NSW Police Transport Policy Unit.
But through it all, music was always his true north.
“ I loved music as a kid, but it wasn’ t until I was 15 that my mate Rob Bodycott and I started guitar lessons,” he said.
From there, the bug well and truly bit. Spyda balanced work with a thriving music life, playing in bands right through to today.
“ And would you believe it, the first band I joined was called Parole,” he laughed.
The five-piece played gigs across the Hawkesbury for three years, performing covers and original songs.
Over the decades, Spyda’ s musical journey has seen him front well-known local bands including 5 Way Addiction, which produced two albums, and more recently Vanquished, behind the hardhitting release Dog a Bone. And yes— he can still belt one out. I’ ve had the pleasure of seeing Spyda on stage myself, and crikey, the man can sing.
These days, he hosts popular monthly Backyard Gigs, giving local musos a chance to perform and connect.
“ I also open up the Backyard for community events,” Spyda said.“ Groups like the Hope4u Foundation hold regular meetings here.”
What a life— and what a yarn.
