LOCAL LIFE

... ideas worth spreading...

The Hawkesbury’ s stories, strength and spirit will take centre stage when TEDxHawkesbury arrives at the Richmond School of Arts for an inspiring afternoon of ideas, connection and conversation.
In the spirit of“ ideas worth spreading”, TED created the TEDx program to empower communities around the world to host their own independently organised events. TEDx events bring people together to share a TED-like experience, combining recorded TED Talks with live speakers to spark meaningful discussion in a local setting.
TEDxHawkesbury will do just that- offering three hours of powerful talks designed to challenge, uplift and inspire. Drawing together local and international voices, the event will explore this year’ s compelling theme:“ Unbreak the Future.”
Many people are familiar with the global TED brand and its thoughtprovoking online talks. TEDxHawkesbury brings that same energy and intellectual curiosity to our own backyard, creating space for big ideas to resonate within our
own community. Topics will range from environmental stewardship and critical thinking to the future of work and the power of community resilience- themes that feel particularly relevant in a region that knows firsthand what it means to rebuild and adapt.
Among the confirmed speakers is Scott Hinks, whose talk,“ When Communities Lift Each Other,” reflects on the Hawkesbury floods and the grassroots response that followed. Challenging the reliance on topdown aid, Scott highlights how ordinary people stepping up in times of crisis form the true backbone of recovery. His message is clear: a resilient future depends on turning compassion into action and rebuilding from the ground up.
Meditation teacher Katherine Pinczuk offers a gentler but equally powerful perspective in“ The Wisdom of a Wagging Tail.” Inspired by her dog Boris, Katherine reimagines mindfulness through the lens of unconditional presence. Her talk invites the audience to embrace life’ s messiness,
reduce stress and rediscover the simple, wordless lessons that help open our hearts.
Environmental advocate and Hawkesbury-Nepean Waterkeeper Dr Michelle Ryan will present“ What the Platypus Can Teach Us About Connection.” Through the search for the elusive platypus, Dr Ryan reveals how environmental initiatives such as the Hawkesbury Nepean Platypus Project have sparked science, hope and stronger human connections across the region. Her talk explores how caring for our waterways ultimately brings communities closer together.
TEDxHawkesbury promises more than just a series of talks. It will be an afternoon of shared reflection and inspiration, celebrating the resilience and forward-thinking spirit of the Hawkesbury community.
The event will be held at the Richmond School of Arts, with tickets starting from just $ 25. Those interested are encouraged to follow TEDxHawkesbury for updates and speaker announcements.
In a region that has weathered challenges and emerged stronger, this is an opportunity to gather, reflect and imagine how- together- we can truly unbreak the future.
