AWL Hawkesbury ReTAIL Hub
Animal Welfare League Hawkesbury Branch has been caring for pets and their people in the Hawkesbury Valley and surrounds for over 45 years. We cover both Hawkesbury and Penrith Local Government Areas. We rescue underage, sick and injured pets who are handed in to vets and to Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter. We assist with community vet care and pet food wherever possible.
AWL Hawkesbury Branch is run by animal loving volunteers, doing what we can, whenever we can. Hawkesbury Branch is one of 21 Branches in NSW, run by Animal Welfare League NSW. You might have seen AWL Kemps Creek Shelter on‘ The Doghouse’! Our Branch doesn’ t have a shelter like that though- all our animals are cared for by volunteer foster carers in their own homes.
We are very proud of our AWL Hawkesbury ReTAIL Hub, established at 519 George Street South Windsor in May 2023.
AWL Hawkesbury ReTAIL Hub is more and different to a traditional OP Shop- it’ s our multipurpose Branch Headquarters and COMMUNITY HUB, featuring an adoption centre; animal welfare assistance & a great collection of dog & cat essentials. Adoption Centre & Welfare Outlet The Hub has 2 adoption rooms- making the adoption process an enjoyable experience for both adopters and carers.
Twice yearly the adoption rooms transform into clinic space for Vet Check, Vaccination and Microchipping days, providing affordable veterinary services to our community.
Our ReTAIL Hub is a welcoming place where locals pop in for advice, assistance regarding their pets, and sometimes just for a chat or a treat for their dog.
Subsidised Desexing remains one of our core functions and in the past financial year we issued over 1500 Vouchers for cats and dogs. We also participated in National Desexing Month, offering cat desexing for $ 70. Free microchips are offered with the desexing vouchers.
The AWL Companion Animal Assistance Scheme, providing veterinary care for pets whose owners are experiencing hardship, is also accessible at the Hub.

• Our shop is stocked with an amazing array of donated goods – much of it new
• Heavily discounted pet food; pet coats, collars, leads, accessories and toys;
• Quality bric a brac and gift ware; handcrafted & repurposed jewellery;
• DVDs and CDs, ladies fashion and accessories All funds raised go towards our subsidised desexing program and providing for the animals we have in care.
