Retaining early career teachers

“ Early career teachers” are those recognised as those in the first one to two years of working in their profession.
This period is characterised by high enthusiasm and recent training, but also significant challenges in their lives which can lead to high turnover rates.
It is estimated that up to 50 per cent of teachers drop out of their profession in the first five years, and that 20 per cent leave in their first three years.
There are many contributing factors to the large dropout rate, including classroom management challenges, high workloads and administrative burdens.
Programs and support systems are crucial for these teachers to help them develop essential skills like classroom management, build confidence, and stay in the profession.
Early Career Teacher Conferences( ECTC) are events which enable educators to gain support, skills and develop professional connections.
Richmond High School organised a two-day ECTC at Windsor’ s Crown Plaza late November for early career teachers from Hawkesbury High, Windsor High, Galston High and Richmond High.
