The End is nigh!

To say Doctor David Richardson loved Sixties American pop group, The Doors, is to say lead singer, Jim Morrison, could sing and recite!
And boy-o-boy – could he ever do that!
So, after hearing Dr Richardson was retiring after 45 years of tending the medical needs of a host of devoted patients, I turned to The Doors for inspiration in leading off this story and grabbing your interest.
And that came in the opening stanza of The Doors’ 1967 hit, The End.“ This is the end Beautiful friend This is the end My only friend, the end”
I’ m sure Dr Richardson’ s patients had other friends, but to them he was the one they turned to in times of trouble.
The good doctor wanted to inform his myriad of patients tended since he first hung his doctor’ s shingle at Galston in 1980, that he was retiring and that they could access their medical records.
Dr Richardson’ s shingle comes down on Thursday, November 27.
“ We will provide their medical records on a USB drive – patients simply have to ring the surgery( 4578 6442) or email us at info @ drdgr. com,” he explained.
He and his wife, Christine – she was the office manager and nurse for most of their married life before cutting back in recent years – decided they wanted
to devote their golden years to spending quality time with family, and travel adventures.
“ We have placed our North Richmond property on the market, intending to down size but still call this beautiful part of the Hawkesbury our home,” Dr Richardson said.
Their current place of abode is historic Rouse Farm, an absolutely amazing structure built in the 1890s and standing on 13 acres of manicured gardens and rolling paddock and offering magnificent views to the east.
Dr Richardson’ s devotion to patients began in 1980, opening a General Practitioner clinic in Galston which he operated for 10 years before his career in the profession took a large U-turn.
“ I realised many patients were not being well served by this sort of medicine,” he explained.
“ This included women with menopausal problems or severe PMS, menstrual migraines, men who were beginning to lose their enthusiasm and drive, people with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia, thyroid problems and those struggling with anxiety, depression or a

“ I believed these complex conditions were simply not very well-served by the Australian medical system, which let many of these people fall through the cracks.
“ By 2011, I realised I wanted to get away from running a multi-doctor practice to concentrate on all those complex medical problems that were not generally served well by most doctors.”
Hence the relocation to the Hawkesbury where he and Christine were able to live the dream – restoring Rouse

Dr Richardson’ s enquiring mind has no limits!
“ My other interests include family, gardening, land management, the environment, building stuff, getting out in the bush, art, politics, ethics and I am an International Cat Judge,” he said.
“ And I love The Doors whom I discovered in 1967 and still sound good – if not to our children and grandchildren!”
