Rotunda gift for historic Windsor
The Windsor Experience is set to gift a magnificent new rotunda to the township of Windsor, replacing the existing structure in Windsor Mall and creating a beautiful new landmark that reflects the town’ s rich heritage and community pride.
Earlier this year, members of The Windsor Experience voted to dedicate funds toward a project that would leave a meaningful and lasting contribution to the town. The new rotunda embodies that goal a symbol of craftsmanship, community, and connection to Windsor’ s history. The materials for the new structure will be fully funded by The Windsor Experience through members’ contributions and continued community support. Adding even greater depth to the project is the involvement of Mr Jex Pablo, a master carpenter and expert in heritage timber framing. Jex is renowned for his dedication to preserving traditional construction methods and runs workshops teaching these techniques across Australia.
Sponsored by The King’ s Foundation, Jex has generously offered to construct the rotunda free of charge in his own workshops. Once completed, the structure, built to match the size and proportions of the current rotunda will be handed over to the group and installed over a weekend with the necessary engineering certifications in place. The Mayor has already been approached to formally offer the project to the local community.
Designed by local heritage specialists, the new rotunda will be crafted entirely from locally sourced timbers using traditional joinery techniques, ensuring the structure remains untreated and durable for generations. The surrounding trellis and wisteria in Windsor Mall will be preserved as part of the final setting, maintaining the charm and continuity of the space.
With Windsor Mall recently upgraded, the new rotunda will become a centrepiece that blends seamlessly with its surroundings, a proud reflection of Windsor’ s historic character and the
artistry of traditional timber building.
Additional donations from supporters are welcome, with funds directed toward enhancing the project through heritagestyle roofing, detailing, or decorative elements. To view design plans, learn more about Jex’ s work, or take part in the upcoming workshops, visit kieselhaus. com.
