September is the start of spring and there are lots of exciting outdoor things to enjoy. The RAAF Base Richmond Airshow 2025 is all set to be a spectacular event with amazing displays of airborne displays and a host of exhibits and activities on the ground. Around 80,000 people are expected, so a big one for the Hawkesbury! p5.
For those curious to know more about the base’ s history and aviation in general, our esteemed historian’ s article this month delves into how it all started for the 100 year old base, p10.
The historic town of Windsor’ s Gas Lamp Festival will be held over the October long weekend when the quaint town comes to life with a town crier, gasketeers, parades and competitions, see wrap and p19-21. Preparation for Savour the Flavour 2025 in Richmond is also well underway, a popular event that showcases the array of local flavours and cuisines, p12. The VIC100 will be launched in
HDI
November after three years of careful planning. A group of up to 800 cyclists will ride the 100 challenging kilometres from Penrith to Mount Victoria. The ride is to raise critical funds for Lifeline and the original group, Go for Broke, was formed by seventeen cyclists in 2016, p16.
Susan Templeman MP awarded $ 50,000 to each RFS Brigade in the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains enabling them to be more prepared as the bushfire season approaches, p22. Aussie Pumps encourage all locals to grab a copy of their Aussie Bushfire Survival Guide- being prepared is the only way, p32.
Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather tells us of another initiative for keeping us safer on the roads. Illuminated road flood signage will be installed at some of our most flood prone locations.
The signs are solar powered and will automatically light up when water levels reach a certain height, alerting drivers well in advance, p18.
