Hawks’ honour fabulous foursome

by Greg Martin
You just cannot keep a good man down – or out of the limelight. Such is the indefatigable Paul Wayling, a true legend in Hawkesbury sporting circles.
Paul has featured in this magazine on many occasions for promoting those pioneers who have contributed so much across any number of sports, primarily cricket and rugby league.
And his efforts have once again borne fruit with him pushing for Hawkesbury“ Hawks” Cricket Club to be recognised for the contributions of four men who successfully lobbied and worked tirelessly for the club to join Sydney Grade Cricket ranks. Remember the names! Neal Hall, Barry Smith, Phil Tuckerman – all of whom have previously featured as Hawkesbury’ s Finest subjects – and Adrian Lindo. Adrian, who been in ill-health prior to his passing on August 12, had his spirits buoyed when informed of his life membership.
“ As secretary of the HDCA, Adrian was the organiser of many of the Steering Committee meetings with council, NSW Junior Cricket Union and Sydney Grade Cricket( SGC), and attended each meeting to write up minutes to report back to HDCA,” Paul said.
Adrian Lindo had been in ill health and was unable to join his mates in our group photo.

Imagine A New Interior- Windsor’ s new home for curtains, blinds and more

After eight successful years operating as a mobile business, Jenny McCorkell nee Faulder, founder of Imagine A New Interior, has found a permanent home at 1 / 11 New Street, Windsor.
Known for quoting and fitting curtains and blinds in customers’ homes, Jenny now offers a welcoming shopfront where locals can browse an impressive range of fabrics and see curtains, roller blinds and roman blinds on display.
Jenny has more than 20 years’ experience in the window furnishings industry, says opening the store has been a natural step forward.
“ I started out visiting clients in their homes, but now people can come in and see what’ s possible. Having the fabrics, displays and samples here makes it easier for customers to visualise how everything will look.”
What sets Imagine a New Interior apart is its personalised approach. Jenny greets each personally whether they walk into the shop or make contact by phone.“ I like to treat every customer the same, whether it’ s one window or an entire house,” she explains.
“ It’ s important to me that people feel listened to and supported.”
The business prides itself on offering something for every taste and budget, from simple and elegant designs to high-end designer fabrics. Alongside curtains and
“ He, along with Phil Tuckerman, drew up the new club’ s draft constitution, and once Hawkesbury got the nod from SGC, he played a strong hand in chasing up players to fill five teams – he also captained the fourth grade in that debut season.
“ This wonderful man became the club’ s inaugural secretary in that debut 1985-86 season, and he continued to be heavily involved on the committee over the ensuing couple of years.
“ Without Barry Smith’ s efforts we would not have got there, especially regarding acquiring the ground at Bensons Lane and lobbying extensively in chasing up grants and vital sponsorships.
“ Barry’ s business acumen was paramount throughout the journey in Hawkesbury joining SGC – he wrote the vital submission to the Sydney Grade Association – not only did Barry have the business smarts, he was also handy out on the pitch as a member of the inaugural 4th grade XI.
“ Phil Tuckerman contributed immensely to the club as a player and long-time administrator with the HDCA.
“ He joined a steering committee consisting of president, Beau Strachan, Adrian Lindo, Barry Smith and Neal Hall which worked tirelessly over several years prior to Hawkesbury getting the nod from SGC in 1985.

blinds, the store also provides upholstery services and a growing home décor range, including rugs, cushions, throws, pictures, flowers, and even a touch of confectionery. For those with a love of vintage charm, there’ s a special display tucked under the stairs, a personal nod to the owner’ s passion for timeless style.
Jenny says the biggest achievement so far has been steady growth each year, culminating in the exciting move to a shopfront. The next goal? To expand the store’ s opening hours. Currently, is juggling in-home consultations with time in the shop.“ In the next 12 months, I’ d love to see the shop grow and open full time,” she says.
For Windsor and the wider Hawkesbury community, Imagine A New Interior brings more than just beautiful curtains and blinds – it offers a personal touch, years of expertise, and a shop filled with inspiration. with John Crane, the President of the NSW Junior Union which was instrumental in convincing the NSW Junior Union to recommend our club to the Sydney Grade Committee.
“ When the club contracted our first international, England’ s Roland Butcher, Phil organised for him to live on his father, Eric’ s property, and he was instrumental in luring Steve Waugh and his NSW side to play against Hawkesbury to officially open our Benson’ s Lane ground.
“ Phil also served the club as a committeeman, was heavily involved in many fundraising activities and was always one of the first to raise his hand to do the hard yakka in helping maintain the complex.
“ Neal was heavily involved, along with Beau Strahan and Adrian, in attempting to lure State and Test batsmen Dirk Wellham to the club as captain-coach( his asking price was too high) and also sweet-talked his brothers, Colin and Ken, to link with the new club – both men were quality players.
“ Neal arranged various council inspections of grounds that could comply with requirements of the SGC committee
Paul Wayling( l) was delighted when Hawksbury Cricket Club accepted his nomination of life memberships to four of the club’ s founding fathers. and was to the forefront in volunteering in fund raising and manual work in getting the grounds ready for grade.
“ He also had a long grade career over seven seasons, commencing at the ripe old age of age of 37, playing first and second grades throughout his career with the Hawks. I remember him being anointed as a clubman of the year, arranging many trial games and other activities which included for three seasons organising lucrative fundraising six-a-side competitions with other grade clubs.”
