Hawkesbury Walk, Ride, Run united against violence

COMMUNITY DAY AT THE SHOWGROUND TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERVICES

On Sunday, 24 August 2025, Windsor Rotary, in collaboration with Rotary clubs across the Hawkesbury, will host a powerful day of unity and purpose at the Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon- the Hawkesbury Walk, Ride, Run event.
This inclusive community event invites residents of all ages and abilities to take part in a walk, ride or run, raising vital funds and awareness for families affected by domestic violence in the Hawkesbury region. Proceeds from sponsorships and donations will go directly to local organisations that provide support to those experiencing domestic violence.
The event is structured to encourage participation throughout the day:- Ride from 8:00am- Run from 10:00am- Walk from 1:00pm Entry for each activity is $ 30, with a family pass available for $ 50, allowing
families of three or more to participate in any event together.
For those not taking part in the main events, the day will still offer plenty to enjoy. A gold coin donation at the gate provides access to a lively assortment of markets, food stalls, and entertainment, making it a welcoming space for the whole community to come together in support of a vital cause.
The initiative, proudly supported by Windsor Rotary, stands as a united front against domestic violence, bringing visibility, compassion and real support to those who need it most.

Vale Marjorie Vaux Douglas

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of our Finest candidates, Marjorie Vaux Douglas, who died peacefully on Monday, 7 July 2025, shortly after 11am, at the remarkable age of 100.
We had the privilege of telling Marjorie’ s story in our December 2024 issue, highlighting her extraordinary life as a devoted mother, grandmother, and much-respected teacher. Her warmth, wisdom, and strength touched many in our community.
The team at The Independent extends our heartfelt condolences to the Douglas family.
Her daughter Emma shared that Marjorie leaves behind her five children- Kay, Grant, Bradley, Mark, and Gordon along with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each a part of her enduring legacy.
“ She will be deeply missed,” Emma said.“ But we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace after a long and full life.”
