Fifty years in business is no small feat, and so it is all the more heartwarming to see our cover and the article on P9 celebrate Turtle Landscape Supplies’ half-century. Barry Locock, kindly known as Big Turtle around the block, commonly evokes hard work, integrity, and community spirit. In 1975 Barry had a big dream, a decent truck and his late wife, Jan, by his side. Today, the company has two sites, 50 vehicles and 60 plus staff. That must be the epitome of success. This 50 year anniversary coincides with Barry’ s 75 th birthday, so happy times indeed at Turtle!

Another uplifting story this month is the Flying Doc Trek, p12. This is an annual fundraising Outback Car Trek which has raised thousands over the years for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Trekkers

participate from all over Australia and our region had four two-man crews, Team Bute, who did themselves proud. This year’ s trek started in Bathurst and finished in Cairns. Trekkers say, apart from the fundraising aspect, it’ s‘ letting outback folk … know that we trekkers have their backs.’

You will be delighted to know that the Windsor Town Centre Liveability Project was completed at the end of June after 12 months’ work. The project, focussed on Windsor Mall, has provided a vibrant and more welcoming space for locals and tourists alike, p5.

Windsor Rotary in collaboration with other Hawkesbury clubs are hosting a powerful event, the Hawkesbury Walk, Ride, Run, on 24 August. It is at the showground and will bring awareness and serve as a united front against domestic violence. Funds raised will go directly to support services in this area, p8.
