Construction of the long-awaited Fernadell Park Sports Precinct is officially underway, with works commencing on Monday, 9 June 2025. This major milestone marks the beginning of a transformative project that will deliver a state-of-theart sporting and community facility to support the growing Pitt Town population for years to come.
To celebrate the occasion, Hawkesbury City Council Mayor Les Sheather, Councillor Peter Ryan, and Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett took part in an official sod-turning ceremony. Although unable to attend in person, the Hon. Peter Primrose extended his best wishes for the project’ s commencement.
“ The $ 22.08 million Fernadell Park and Community Facility is fantastic news for Pitt Town and the wider Hawkesbury community. These new facilities will promote healthy outdoor activities in a space already cherished by both locals and visitors,” Mr Primrose said.
Mayor Sheather echoed these sentiments during the event, noting the significance of the project for the region and acknowledging the additional funding received from the Australian Government’ s Thriving Suburbs Program for the second stage, which will feature a multipurpose community centre.
“ This is an exciting development for Pitt Town and the Hawkesbury. As a long-serving member of the Hawkesbury Sports Council and the Pitt Town Progress Association, this project is especially close to my heart. I’ m thrilled that, with the support of our Federal Member Susan Templeman, we’ ve secured the funding to bring this vision to life,” Mayor Sheather said.
In March, construction firm WEM Scape was awarded the tender to deliver the Fernadell Park Sports Precinct for Hawkesbury City Council. While the community centre is still awaiting development application approval, the remainder of the precinct is expected to be completed— weather permitting— by 30 June 2027.
Once complete, Fernadell Park will provide much-needed active and
