FROM THE MAYOR’ S DESK
with Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather
A very big thank you to everyone who came and visited us at the Hawkesbury Show. Our stand is our biggest opportunity of the year to connect with our community, to hear from you and share with you the work we are doing. 21,000 of you came out and it was our pleasure to connect with all of you.
We have some incredible heritage in the Hawkesbury, and with our strong and long-lasting roots in agriculture, the recent opportunity to protect 19 slab barns through heritage listings and support several owners with heritage assistance grants is something I know my Councillor colleagues were more than happy to do. Some of these barns date back to the earliest days of European settlement. Council staff are currently exploring opportunities to share the history of these barns with the public, so stay tuned.
The heritage of Windsor Mall is also
getting an important facelift. The new pavers, fresh tree planting and street furniture will ensure the beautiful buildings in the Mall are showcased for everyone to enjoy while doing their shopping, browsing the markets or enjoying a bit to eat at our cafés. Council has adopted an accelerated works program to minimise the impact on businesses as much as possible.
All businesses remain open for business during the works so please get out and support them. We expect works to be completed by the end of this month.
Speaking of trees, did you know Council has a Community
Nursery? It is located next to our Companion Animal Shelter on Mulgrave Road and has dozens of varieties of locally native plants at very low prices, so you can do your bit for the environment and make your yard beautiful on a budget. It is open to the public every Wednesday from 9am-1pm and the first Saturday of the month from 9am-noon.
