May is shaping up to be a vibrant and eventful month across the Hawkesbury, with celebrations, community spirit, and inspiring local stories at every turn.
After nearly 20 years as a muchadmired member of Hawkesbury Race Club’ s racecourse staff, Rick Johnston is returning to the wide open spaces he loves. A true bushie at heart, Rick’ s story is one of dedication and passion, and we wish him all the best as he heads back to country life.
This month, we also shine a light on one of Hawkesbury’ s brightest young stars, Gemma. Each March since 2019, Gemma has raised funds for mental health charity ReachOut by swimming laps— each one adding to a fundraising total that now exceeds $ 20,000.
Her tireless efforts were recognised last year when she was named Hawkesbury Young Citizen of the Year and Hawkesbury NAIDOC Sportsperson
HDI of the Year.
Meanwhile, the Hawkesbury Hawks Cricket Club will be hosting a special celebration on Ruby Saturday, 10 May, marking its 40th anniversary in Sydney Grade Cricket.
The event, held at the Windsor Function Centre, will bring together players and supporters from near and far, with awards presented across all six grades.
May also brings an exciting line-up of local events. The 138th Hawkesbury Show runs from 9 to 11 May, promising a weekend of fun for the whole family. On 24 May, head to Richmond Park for the inaugural Puppy and Paws Expo— a must for dog lovers. And to round out the month, The Hills Model Railway Society Inc. will host its 41st annual exhibition at its new venue, Hawkesbury Race Club, on 31 May and 1 June.
Enjoy all that May has to offer!
