FROM THE MAYOR’ S DESK

with Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather
May is an exciting time in the Hawkesbury. The Hawkesbury Show returns for its 138th year on 9-11 May and Council will once again be there with our award-winning community display.
Make sure you pop by our tent in the emergency services zone and say hi to Council staff and learn about all the important work Council is doing in the community, have your say on our plans, take part in the show passport and construction obstacle course activities, and much more.
As the weather cools, it is the perfect time for hot apple pie! The Apple Pie Trail is a great way to spend the weekend as a family or on a romantic getaway.
Discover local orchards, sample the apple pies and ciders, and enjoy the wonderful hospitality of businesses and locals of Bilpin and Berambing. Stop by the Visitor Information Centre in Clarendon to pick up your free Apple Pie Trail map, or go online at www. discoverthehawkesbury. com. au
Mark 27-28 September in your diaries for the RAAF Richmond Air Show, it’ s a BIG DEAL. The two-day event is being held to celebrate 100 years since the base was established and Council is working closely with the RAAF to create a fun weekend for locals and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more details.
While you have your diaries out, make sure you also mark Sunday 3 August for Hawkesbury Fest and Saturday 18 October for Savour the Flavour.
The next major step in our revitalisation of Windsor Town Centre is underway with the upgrade of the Mall.
This will include replacing the aging and uneven pavers and street furniture, and removing the trees and replanting with species much more suited to the mall – supporting businesses, shoppers, pedestrians and heritage. We’ re looking to have this work done by July, weather permitting, to minimise the impact on businesses, but in the meantime please support our shopkeepers and business owners in the area by shopping local.

Fire and Rescue NSW Open Day Behind the Scenes of Your Local Station

SATURDAY, 10 MAY | 4 HOURS | FREE PUBLIC EVENT
Fire and Rescue NSW is once again inviting the community to step inside its stations for the annual Open Day on Saturday, 10 May.
This popular event offers a rare opportunity to take a behind-thescenes look at Australia’ s busiest fire and rescue service. Visitors will have the chance to explore fire trucks up close, meet their local firefighters, and learn about the wide range of services they provide – far beyond just firefighting. Families can enjoy a variety of engaging activities for children, while also picking up essential safety advice.
Firefighters will be on hand to share practical tips on smoke alarms, fire safety around the home, and how to stay safe during the winter season.
To find out which stations are participating and what they have planned, visit: www. fire. nsw. gov. au / openday
Please note: While Open Day activities are scheduled, fire stations remain operational and ready to respond to emergencies. If the fire truck and crew are not present when you arrive, they may be attending an incident, but are likely to return shortly.
