Golfers tee up for charity
by Greg Martin
Three players each had a heart stopping thrill as their balls swung toward the 8th hole during the 2024 Richmond Veteran Golfers ’ ( RVG ) annual Legacy fundraising tournament .
Reason being that the first player to score a hole-in-one would have earned $ 25,000 ! Unfortunately , those balls stopped agonisingly short of the hole – close , but no cigar !
Well , those three players and the rest of the field will get the same opportunity to snare the big bucks when RVG host the 8th edition of the major fundraising tournament at Royal Richmond on Monday , March 31 .
Notable pawn shop group , Mega Cash , is once again putting up the cash , which you can imagine always ensures a big group of spectators at the 8th tee and green !
Also coming onboard as sponsors of the tournament are Richmond Club , Riverstone Memorial Club , Bendigo Bank and engineering firm , GNM Industries .
All proceeds from the big day out will be directed to regular recipient , Legacy , which is splitting the money this year with The Brain Cancer Research Group at North Sydney .
“ Last year we raised $ 12,750 for Legacy and we fully expect that total to be exceeded this year ,” said RVG ’ s go-to-man , Ken Powell .
“ The raised funds will come from entry fees , raffles and silent auction . Those

attending will have the opportunity to have some fabulous prizes including golfing holidays , be wined and dined at Hawkesbury Day at the Races , and for lovers of the grape , a selection of Taylors fine wines .”
This year ’ s event will be a 2-person ambrose format which is very popular as it allows all standards of golfers to mix and play together with equal enjoyment ,
irrespective of ability .
The tournament will be played over 18-holes with a shotgun start at 8.15am which will see all the golfers back at the clubhouse at lunchtime to enjoy lunch and the fundraising activities .
They say “ the best things in life are free ”, but not when you are raising funds for worthwhile causes . Cost to swing a club at the tournament is $ 75 per player .
Each golfer receives brekkie , lunch , a round of golf and the chance to win fabulous prizes .
For further information , if you are keen to participate in this worthwhile cause , contact Ken Powell on 0412 600 434 .
Payment is in cash or bank transfer : BSB 633 000 , account No 193664141 – just add your name for reference .
See you on the tee !
