Thirty-two new
FROM THE MAYOR ’ S DESK citizens pledge loyalty
Hawkesbury City Council welcomed 32 new citizens , including six families , at its Australia Day citizenship ceremony .
The new citizens come from nine countries : Germany , India , Kenya , South Africa , Thailand , The Philippines , Ukraine , the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe .
They are among the 14,600 people from more than 150 countries who are becoming citizens all over Australia today – one of the most popular occasions for citizenship ceremonies .
The new citizens pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people at the ceremony and heard from the General Manager of Hawkesbury City Council , Elizabeth Richardson , the Mayor of Hawkesbury , Councillor Les Sheather , the Federal Member for Macquarie , Susan Templeman MP , the State Member for Hawkesbury , Robyn Preston MP , Superintendent Nadine Roberts of Hawkesbury Police Area Command , and RAAF Base Richmond Wing Commander Andrew Burke .

Hawkesbury City Council General Manager , Elizabeth Richardson , said , “ The Hawkesbury region is a culturally diverse community , and you are all a great example this . Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths . It is central to who we are and part of our national identity .”
Each new citizen received a certificate , a commemorative coin and a native plant , from Council ’ s community nursery , as a welcome gift .

A very big congratulations to all of the winners of the Hawkesbury Australia Day Awards this year . These awards are an excellent opportunity to recognise the achievements and hard work of special individuals and organisations in our community .
This year ’ s awards were made all that more inspirational by our Australia Day ambassadors – the StarAbility Dance Performance Group – who inspired our gathered guests and dignitaries with their uplifting performance .
I was privileged to welcome 32 new citizens to our City at our Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony . These ceremonies are always such a good reminder of what a strong , supportive and accepting country
we are privileged to live in .
The day was capped off with our Australia Day on the Hawkesbury celebration at Governor Phillip Park , where our biggest ever crowd of 8000 turned out for an evening of cricket , thong throwing , food , music , emergency service displays and the fireworks finale .
It is very pleasing to see that works to restore our riverbank and walking paths along The Terrace at Windsor are commencing .
I thank everyone for their patience while Council went through the process with the State Government to secure the necessary funding .
The finishing touches on the first stage of the improvements to Windsor town centre are now taking place . The trees add much-needed shade to the town centre as well as looking beautiful – especially the crepe myrtles . Expect work to start in the coming months near Thompson Square and then the Mall .
