As is my want , my mind turned to another song after being informed that the Grose River Bridge dream will become reality !
Two songs in fact - the opening stanza in Frank Sinatra ’ s signature hit , My Way – “ And now , the end is near ….” and Simon and Garfunkels ’ Bridge Over Troubled Water .
Redbank Communities has released
|
the plan and timetable for the ( very , very ) much-needed bridge for which everyone living on the western side of the Hawkesbury River have been cooling their heels for yonks .
Yikes , I reckon there would have been dancing in the streets ( perhaps ) but certainly the opening of a bottle of champers to celebrate the announcement .
The saga , so far ten years in the making , will become a reality within three years when the new bridge opens to traffic .
|
The bridge will be built in partnership by Redbank Communities , Transport NSW and Hawkesbury City Council as part of the voluntary Planning Agreement between Redbank and council .
Redbank will fund the construction of the bridge and approach roads .
The ensuing 18 months will be occupied by the acquisition phase of the land on the approach to the Grose River , and then a further 18 months until the end of the bridge construction and building of approach roads .
The Grose River Bridge will be
|
connected between Grose River Road at Ashtons Road and Springwood Road .
The $ 30 million project will certainly be a boon to every driver who , during peak times , has to sit for numerous changes of traffic lights at the Grose Vale Road and Bells Line of Road intersection .
“ Redbank Communities would like to thank all council staff involved in this process and extends the heartfelt gratitude to the community for their steadfast support in advancing this much-needed piece of infrastructure ,” said a Redbank spokesperson .
