Violence against women and children is a national crisis . Since coming to Government , we ’ ve been delivering on our commitment to end this violence within a generation with a $ 3.4 billion investment .
Some of the funding is for frontline services , like extra domestic violence workers in the Hawkesbury and more than $ 250,000 to allow Penrith Women ’ s Health Centre to continue its program supporting women in the region to leave a violent relationship .
But we ’ re also engaging with organisations and individuals across the community to address the underlying drivers of gender-based violence .
Research tells us that young men and boys are being increasingly exposed to disrespectful and misogynistic
|
content , with 25 per cent of Australian teenage boys looking up to social media personalities who perpetuate harmful gender stereotypes and condone violence against women .
Evidence based campaigns , like the Stop it at the Start campaign , promote meaningful conversations and healthy attitudes around consent and relationships .
This year the government launched , The Algorithm of Disrespect , an interactive tool that shows parents the misogyny and violent rhetoric that their sons might be exposed to online and provides resources for parents to start a conversation and challenge these harmful views .
While it ’ s clear that this content is harmful to women , it can also have a profound negative impact on the young men who are exposed to it . Young men should have the opportunity to learn

about respectful relationships in a safe , age-appropriate way that will give them the best chance to have healthy relationships as adults .
Alongside this , the government has provided $ 100.4 million over five years to fund Our Watch , Australia ’ s leader in primary prevention . Their work reaches men where they are whether that ’ s at Uni , TAFE , their sports team or the workplace . Our Watch works to change negative attitudes , promote consent and prevent gender-based violence . This funding will allow them to develop new tools and strategies and reach more men who need support .
The National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children provides a clear guide on the work that needs to be done to eliminate domestic , family and sexual violence in one generation . It commits the states and federal government to action .

We ’ ll keep working hard to remove barriers for victims and survivors and will continue to improve access support to make escape violence easier . But we know that the best way to keep women and children safe is prevention and by investing in programs and education tools we can end this violence for the next generation .
