ONE OF THE HAWKESBURY ’ S FINEST ...

Windsor Leagues Club CEO , Michael Pullin – a big man with a big heart . And one of the most astute people in the club game . Photo : Kathryn Johnston by Greg Martin
In interviewing subjects for my stories which adorn these pages , I normally ensure the atmosphere is relaxed and we chat over a cuppa as I suss out his or her story .
I always start by asking them about their place of birth and then move on to where they grew up , education , life in the workforce , marital status , contributions to society , other interests , etcetera .
Always searching for something about their lives which would provide me with a zinger of a first paragraph to hook you , dear readers .
Ready ? OK , what about this to open the batting ?
Michael Pullin , CEO at Windsor League Club , was just 21 years old when his world was changed forever with a life taken and a life given .
“ My fiancée , Samantha , and I were the proud parents of our son , Jaeden , but she suffered intolerably with postnatal depression , and she took her own life when our little baby was just eight months old ,” Michael said .
That was back in 1997 , but love abounded in the Pullin household , and Michael , his brother , David , and their parents , Ann and Fred , ensured Jaeden would live a much-loved and fulfilling life .
“ Jaeden has followed me into the club industry and is currently a duty manager at Emu Sports ,” Michael said .
Down the years since Samantha ’ s passing , the 49-year-old Michael has had his fair share of relationships with the fairer sex , but none of them could replace Samantha in his heart .
“ Losing Samantha at such a young age and under those circumstances was shattering but thanks to having Jaeden in my life and the wholehearted support of my mum and dad , both of us have lived happy lives ,” Michael said .
Michael is a physically an imposing figure , both in stature and reputation within the club game since entering the business .
He stands 195cms and I ’ m not telling tall stories when I write his standing within clubland has also seen him reach the heights .
His career kicked off in 1995 , taking a surprisingly new direction after two years studying for an engineering degree at Western Sydney University Kingswood .
“ Due to a prolonged bout of glandular fever in my second year , I missed a lot of tuition and in the end just decided to take my life in a different direction ,” Michael said .
He found a job as a barman at St Marys Band Club , but during his yearor-so-long stint at the club , his career in club management really kicked off when appointed a trainee manager at Blacktown Workers .
That was the second of many steps as Michael climbed the management ladder .
