Ever since those innovative Greeks left that giant Wooden Horse outside the gates of Troy , folk around the globe have been wary of Greeks bearing gifts .
But there ’ s a woman of proud Greek ancestry who has put paid to that old adage throughout Sydney ’ s north-west – solicitous solicitor , Evelyn Beaver , who brings the gift of compassion to her many clients .
Evelyn is the principal of Riverstone legal firm , Cathers Beaver & Kamiya which has recently morphed into New Day Legal . More on that name change later . To say Evelyn is proud of her Greek heritage is to say Dionysus loved to party !
“ My grandparents brought their children to this country in search of a better life , providing me with a wonderful , loving and inspirational mother and father ,” Evelyn said .
“ Dad , Theo , who has passed , was born in Nyngan , while mum , Patricia , still going strong at 89-years of age , came here with her parents as a three-year-old .
“ I ’ m proud to say that dad served our country during World War II , soldiering in Papua New Guinea and then being involved in rounding up the Japanese prisoners of war who escaped during the Cowra Breakout in 1944 .

“ Both mum and dad worked hard throughout their lives and were loving and inspirational parents to my two siblings and I ,” Evelyn said . New Day Legal ? “ I ’ ve always had a positive outlook on life and that was boosted when I heard American singer , Danny Gokey , belting out his song , “ New Day ”,” Evelyn explained .
“ The song , especially the opening stanza , hit home with me as it mirrored my philosophy of life . “ Wake up and breathe in deeper than yesterday Take on the morning like your soul ’ s been remade Roll down the windows , let your cares fly away Good things are yours to claim , you don ’ t have to wait .”
A tablespoon of optimism , mixed with a pinch of empathy and a large dose of legal expertise , and out of the oven comes Evelyn Beaver and New Day Legal .
“ I go above and beyond for my clients ,” Evelyn said .
“ They come to me worried about problems and I tell them that problems are challenges to be solved and we go about doing just that .
“ I want to make a difference by helping people on the other side of my desk .”
Evelyn has spent her entire working life in the legal profession since leaving Cheltenham Girls High

with her Higher School Certificate .
“ I commenced my career as a legal secretary for a small city law firm and over the succeeding years I studied to become a paralegal and then practice manager ,” Evelyn explained .

“ I was a mature-age , part-time student at the University of New England , completing 14 subjects over two years and was admitted as a solicitor in 2010 ,” Evelyn said .
