MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the world . It has brought the world of combat sports together in one place under a single umbrella , where the competitors can use all their skills to try and be the number one competitor in the world .
Arlene Blencowe is one of the best in the business .
Arlene is one of the toughest women on earth . She started her fight journey back in boxing when she was a 26-year-old single mum trying to make a run for the London Olympics when she decided she wanted to have a crack in the world of combat sports .
She started out in amateur boxing and quickly moved her way into the professional ranks . She picked up two world titles in boxing , the WIBA World Light Welterweight title and the WBF Welterweight World Title . She wasn ’ t wasting any time going places in the fighting game .
Arlene began her professional MMA career in 2013 , only a year after starting her professional boxing journey . In 2014 she signed with Bellator and has the current record of being the longest signed female fighter there .
When Arlene was at school , she liked athletics and loved doing a range of sports , and it ’ s no surprise that she was good at everything she tried .
Her love of boxing came from watching Australian fighting legends Mark Hunt in K1 and John Wayne Parr . She was absolutely in awe of Mark Hunt ’ s walk off knockout that he is accustomed for back in his fight career .
It was something that Arlene wanted to have in her arsenal and a key reason she picked up the nickname Angerfist was because she has a brutal boxing game . She has won some big fights with a big knockout against Amber Leibrock in Bellator 206 .

She had a second featherweight Bellator world title fight against the particularly good Cris Cyborg who used her strengths fighting on the ground to get the win against Arlene . Her last world title fight for the Bellator featherweight world title against Cris Cyborg was a 5-round war . It was brutal and Arlene kept coming and coming and gave her best . It went all the way to the end and was one of the best fights of all time .
Arlene spends a lot of time training . She always wears a cross and prays before her fights and training . The fight game is very respectful .
She is a big advocate for women fighting in Australia and gives herself 8-10 weeks in a fight camp to prepare . The eight weeks get her ready physically and the other two mentally ready . In the fight camp there is 6-8 weeks full on hard out training .
Arlene is an extraordinarily strong boxer and likes the stand-up fighting style . When she is in the US , she trains at Jackson Wink fight school in Albuquerque , New Mexico . She was ranked number two in the world in Bellator for two years .
When I interviewed Arlene the first time back in 2021 , she advised me that she has the fastest finish in Bellator for a woman - still at 22 seconds which is extraordinarily fast . She also told me that she wanted to get 20 career wins under her belt and pick up some world titles in the featherweight division which is 145 pounds or 66kg .
She works exceptionally hard to market herself and get the best opportunities available .
There are many good fighters in the women ’ s game , and she looks forward to more opportunities in 2024 for title chances .
She is currently ranked number five female featherweight fighter in the world .
