If you are dreaming of warmer days , sand in your toes and an escape from day to day life , you aren ’ t the only one . With borders well and truly open again we are free to roam wherever our hearts desire ( as long as our wallets can afford it anyway !).
There are many benefits to travelling , either in Australia or overseas , the first one being learning new things . Even before you set foot outside of your home you have to plan where you are going , which means looking into where you want to go , how you will get there and where you will stay when you arrive . Even if you are only going a few hours away from home , you ’ ll still need to lean about the area you are planning on visiting .
Going overseas will help you to embrace different cultures and meet different people from those cultures and if you are going to a poorer nation , it can help you to appreciate what you have at home . Having different experiences can boost your creativity and helps to get you out of a rut if you have been feeling bored with your day to day life . It can increase your confidence as you manage to navigate your way around unknown places or do things which aren ’ t available at home .
Being away from your 9 – 5 allows you to relax physically and mentally , and if you are in a place where you can swim ,
Travel is great fun , but it can offer you so much more than a camera full of memories . ( Annie Spratt , Unsplash )
PODCASTS
Strong Sense of Place
by Lorna Gordon
If you love books and travel , then a Strong Sense of Place is podcast heaven for you ! Each episode takes you to a specific place , for the most part it ’ s an actual location , either a country or a city , but they also look at places like theatres , the circus , Halloween and forests and the particular vibe they have . Along with the places , they pair up books which are linked with the place they are ‘ visiting ’.
David and Melissa are well travelled people who love to read , so you know this podcast is well rounded and researched . As well as talking about the actual place they are visiting , they recommend several books which are set in the country or place they are discussing to help you get a feel for it . hike or take part in any other exercise or simply be outside of your workplace in nature is highly beneficial .
Travelling with friends or family can strengthen the bonds between you , giving you shared memories that you can look back on for many years . Going on a managed group trip with a lot of people might see you making new friends who you may never have gotten to meet in your normal life , you might even meet the love of your life !
Wherever your feet take you , be sure to stop and enjoy that place fully . Take a step outside of your usual habits and try something new , go for a swim in the ocean , hike to the top of that hill or read a book that someone left lying for others to enjoy .
Seeing the world or our amazing country can open your eyes in unexpected ways , I hope you enjoy it !
Along with the episodes on places , they have episodes on the Library of Lost Time in which they discuss two more books , which are either new releases or ones they are looking froward to read .
This podcast gives you two different podcasts in one and I really like the website ( I know this is a bit off course for a podcast article ), but it is well worth checking out if you enjoy the episodes . On the website they have amazing show notes about the podcast , and they include so much more information on the place they are talking about , including YouTube videos and links to other interesting facts .
You can find the podcast here www . strongsenseofplace . com or where you download your podcasts .
