“ All our regulars turned up and just about every one of them asked to have a drink with me , but because of the workload , it was just an impossibility !” At the end of a long , tiring yet exhilarating day , Kim bid farewell to the last of her customers and no doubt sat down for a well-deserved drink with Belinda , Chris and her staff .
The Australian Hotel is now closed until further notice , undergoing a huge facelift but the popular drive-through bottle shop is still operating under the guidance of the remarkable Jody Smith .

“ Chris and Belinda and their partners , Erin and David , have given me four absolutely delightful grandchildren – Penelope and Harley and Belinda ’ s youngsters , Shelby and Spencer .
“ I ’ m loving being a doting ‘ Nanny ’ and now have ample opportunity to spend quality time with them ,” she said . “ I laugh now thinking about how the older children referred to the hotel as ‘ Nan ’ s work home !’”

the wanderlust and intends hitting the road , well , high seas and rivers of the world , over the next year .
“ I want to take the entire family up to the Gold Coast for a well-deserved holiday but before then I ’ m booked on a Rock the Boat cruise out of Sydney later this month and then will join a cruise from Adelaide to Hobart before Christmas ,” she said .
“ And next year I ’ ll be heading overseas , taking a rail journey out of and back to Zurich and a trip down the Rhine , Main and Danube rivers from Amsterdam to Budapest .”

“ I ’ ve spent many of the happiest days of my life in this place – I ’ ve loved the many aspects of running a hotel and ensuring our customers , especially the locals , regarded the Aussie as a home away from home .” |
Free woodwork classes Community group supporting locals
Hawkesbury Woodcraft Cooperative is offering a free course of woodworking classes funded by Wentworth Healthcare as part of assistance to flood impacted communities .
The course will teach the skills of scroll saw work over four days , timing is negotiated with participants . Scroll sawing uses a machine with a very fine blade which can cut sharp curves and extreme angles . The final products can be intricate and delicate . Scroll sawing can be undertaken when standing or sitting , so it is suitable for people with limited mobility .
Session one will feature an exhibition of work and will give participants an opportunity to have some hands on experience .
It will be open to anyone in the Hawkesbury-Nepean-Blue Mountains area aged 16 or over and will be held at the Hawkesbury Woodcraft workshop at 15 Woodlands Road , Wilberforce on 25 November . No experience is necessary .
The remaining three days will have limited participants to maximise
the amount of hands on time . These participants will receive free membership for this financial year to Hawkesbury Woodcraft , entitling them to full use of the workshop ’ s machines , where they can develop skills in a friendly and supportive environment .
Costs associated with the course will be covered by Wentworth Healthcare . Morning tea and lunch will be provided .
By the end of the course participants will have created a portfolio of work . They will be able to work safely and independently to undertake the full scroll saw process from start to finish .
They may continue their craft at the workshop and will be welcome to branch out into other areas of woodworking including box-making , wood turning , cabinet making , carving , pyrography , furniture restoration etc . Bookings essential . Please contact Graham Shakespeare by email : gkyshake @ bigpond . net . au or Steve Bracken by phone : 0430 032 916 .
