A Grose Wold history buff who weaves a generous dose of fantasy in with a flourish of spirited adventure in his storytelling , has published his first novella ‘ Til Time which is now available as an e-book .
Matthew Ryan launched the first instalment of his time-travelling adventure ‘ Til Time : The Sultan ’ s Siege , in September . It ’ s inspired by real world events in the Middle East and set in twelfth century Jordan .
It ’ s the first in his ‘ Til Time series of seven time-travelling historical adventures being released over the coming year , he told the Independent .
“ I visit a different time throughout history and places from all over the world in each instalment with the same central
Dive into the Middle East ’ s twelfth century Jordan with time travellers Imogen and Ashton in ‘ Til Time : The Sultan ’ s Siege . characters , modern-day best friends Imogen and Ashton ,” Matthew said .
“ They focus on medieval and early medieval history from 500AD to 1500AD – the conquest of the Holy Land by the sultan , ninth century Francia ( France and Germany ), when barbarian kingdoms took over from Rome .
“ I love the fact politics and religion are so meshed together in these times , I ’ m fascinated by it .”
While the main characters are not based on himself or his family , Matthew said some of his secondary characters are inspired by his friends . He also drew on his parents ’ relationship with him when describing the parent / child narrative in the stories .
“ They [ instalments ] take a fair amount of research for historical accuracy , which means readers can learn about different perspectives of history from two young modern-day protagonists who they can identify with ,” Matthew said .
“ It is definitely written for a teenage or young adult audience , although my mum loves reading them too .”
Matthew is releasing the novella on a variety of digital e-book platforms [ see box ].
The 25-year-old self-employed author adores fantasy and historical adventure . He ’ s inspired by TV shows , movies and video games as well as a host of epic fantasy adventure writers .
