Hawkesbury residents honoured on Queen ’ s Birthday

Hawkesbury City residents were congratulated by Macquarie MP Susan Templeman for receiving awards as part of this year ’ s Queen ’ s Birthday Honours . Five residents received an AM or OAM for their outstanding service and work within the community .
Brian Jones , North Richmond , AM , for significant service to chess at the elite level . Among his credits , Mr Jones was president of the Oceania Chess Confederation ; life member and international secretary of Correspondence Chess League of Australia ; president and board member International Chess Federation ; volunteer NSW Junior
Chess League ; founder Sydney International Open .
Marjorie Clarke , Wilberforce , OAM , for service to community history . Patron and life member of the Australiana Pioneer Village ; volunteer 1971-2017 , manager 1984- 1997 . Inaugural member of the Friends of APV .
Dennis John Mitchell and Margaret Laurel Mitchell , Ebenezer , OAM , both for service to emergency response organisations . Dennis is captain and life member of Ebenezer RFS ; long serving member Hawkesbury SES . Margaret is treasurer and executive member of Ebenezer RFS ,

Hawkesbury City Council ’ s recent civic reception was attended by 110 guests to acknowledge and gives thanks for the work carried out by our emergency services and community organisations during a tumultuous three years affected by pandemic , floods and bushfires .
Deputy Mayor Barry Calvert presented thank you plaques to a host of agencies on the night .
“ We had the Gospers Mountain Fire , during one of the worst fire seasons ever seen in the Hawkesbury and NSW , and it was devastating . Then the flood and more floods , and all during a pandemic ,” Cr Calvert said .
“ Thank you to all of our emergency services , volunteers and community organisations who assisted us , and you continue to assist us – thank you for always stepping up .
“ Your work is exceptional and we need you . Saying thank you is really important to us . Tonight is just a small way that we can show you our gratitude .”
