HAWKESBURY LIBRARY SERVICES : Services and activities for children
Reading skills are important to children ’ s success in school , work , and life in general . Numerous studies have shown that children who are exposed to reading before preschool are more likely to do well when they start school . It is never too early to start reading to your child . Some benefits of reading to your child include : - Support cognitive development - Improve language skills - Develop a special bond with your child - Increase concentration - Improved imagination and creativity - Cultivating a lifelong love of reading
The Hawkesbury Library Service can support your child by providing them with access to a range of books and resources from their pre-school years through to their high school years and beyond .
For preschool aged children the library runs rhyme time and Storytime during school term . This is a wonderful opportunity for carers and young children to enjoy stories while participating in fun activities .
The Rhyme Time and Preschool Storytime sessions are free , and bookings are not required .
RHYME TIME Every Monday , 10 – 11am Central Library , Windsor Rhymes , songs and craft from 18 months – 3 years .
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME Central Library Windsor every Tuesday 11am – 12noon Richmond Branch Library every Thursday 11am – 12noon Themed stories , rhymes , and craft for 3 – 5 years .
Hawkesbury Library Service also offers a large variety of books and resources aimed at children and teenagers , from board books , picture books , beginner readers , chapter books and young adult novels .
The library offers Overdrive to its library members which provides them with access to a large selection of eBooks and eAudiobooks .
The Hawkesbury Library also supports the Premiers Reading Challenge which is available for all NSW students from Kindergarten to Year 9 . The Premiers Reading Challenge books for K-6-year groups and all catalogued and are labelled with coloured spine stickers for easy access .
LIBRARY SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
During each of the school holidays the library runs a range of fun activities for school aged children that are either free or low cost . Here are the highlights of the upcoming July school holiday program :
Magic , The Gathering Tuesday 5 July , 10am-12pm Learn how to play this popular trading card game . Recycled Creations Superheroes Wednesday 6 July , 2-3.30pm Create your own superhero outfit using recycled material . Animal Superheroes Tuesday 12 July , 10.30-11.30am In this workshop you will discover what secret animal power you possess .
Superheroes workshop is on 6 July .

The activities for preschool aged children are free and are held at Hawkesbury Central Library , 300 George Street , Windsor or Richmond Branch Library , 29 West Market Street , Richmond . No bookings are necessary for the library pre-school activities . Please note that children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the Hawkesbury Library Service .
