The second of June , 2022 was a special day at Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre ! Our Community Garden commenced it ’ s rejuvenation with an exciting new partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens and Trust as part of the Community Greening Initiative .
The trust incorporates The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney , The Domain , The Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan and The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mt Tomah .
“ The trust incorporates Australia ’ s oldest scientific institution , and one of the country ’ s leading international tourism businesses .
“ It brings together a world-leading staff with expertise in the fields of science , horticulture , public space activation , visitor experience , digital engagement , tourism , planning , major project delivery , commercial investment , sustainable resource and asset management , sport and recreation .’ 1
Community Greening has reached over 100,000 people , to engage with communal garden projects . Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre is thrilled to form this new collaboration to offer increased diversity of activity and opportunity for access to community gardening and green space . Our initiative will commence with key projects and for a range of groups . Our launch event was open to the general community so they could get to know

about our garden and provide ideas for priority projects . More information can be found on our website .
Our launch event in the garden had a focus on getting our gardens spring ready , sharing stories about our gardens , and recognising the importance of shared gardens in our communities , particularly as homes and yards get smaller and our lives become more complex and stressful .
A number of initiatives are now being planned based on community feedback , including an indigenous garden and pruning native trees to create bottlebrush tapping sticks , youth specific initiatives , establishing a greenhouse and a range of fun activities such as cooking in the garden using our local grown produce .
This year has been busy , with continued pandemic impacts , floods and winter quickly setting in .
It doesn ’ t stop us from “ growing ” together as a community . Gardening has been around for thousands of years , it ’ s time we get back to our grass roots to find ourselves again !
