Hawkesbury Cup another roaring success
The wet weather and muddy conditions failed to deter thousands from attending a successful day at the races at the Hawkesbury Racecourse for the Hawkesbury Cup on 30 April .
Kirwan ’ s Lane , rode by jockey Tom Sherry and trained by John O ’ Shea took out the $ 200,000 in prizemoney for winning the Hawkesbury Cup in Race 9 as it finished ahead of Hopeful and Atishu . It was a big win for young Tom Sherry who has just recently completed his racing apprenticeship to officially become a fully-fledged jockey . On another bright note on the day , NSW Jockeys Association showed its support for Dementia Australia through Rugby League great Royce Simmons ’ Big Walk that has been undertaken throughout May . The Jockeys Association presented Royce with a cheque for $ 5000 on the day .

Frances Refalo wins WSW ’ s Chairman ’ s Award
Nepean Football Association President , Frances Refalo has been honoured with the 2021-22 Season Chairman ’ s Award at the Western Sydney Wanderers Medal Dinner . On a night that recognises the club ’ s season and players , it ’ s also an opportunity to recognise those in the community who are doing their bit every day for their love of football .
The annual award is presented to a Western Sydney person who goes “ above and beyond ” for the club and to football in Western Sydney and Refalo was presented the award by Western Sydney Wanderers Chairman Paul Lederer .
In her 26 years of being involved with football , Refalo says that none of her voluntary work with the Wanderers ever feels like work . Frances and the Nepean FA CEO Linda Cerone share the role of volunteer co-ordinators for the club , managing the club ’ s 120 plus match day volunteers .
“ In my capacity as CEO of Nepean Football Association , I ’ ve worked alongside Frances Refalo for the best part of 20 years , firstly as she held various positions as a club committee volunteer and coach and then later , when she joined the Nepean FA Board ,” Cerone says .

She has an honest and uncluttered approach to helping community clubs deal with the many challenges they deal with on a daily basis that comes from years of her own personal experience , so she relates easily to players ( she still plays too !) and to the club volunteers .
