Shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek and Macquarie MP Susan Templeman with parents and students at Freemans Reach Public School .
An Albanese Labor Government will invest more than $ 100,000 in Hawkesbury schools , committing to upgrades of playgrounds and an innovative learning program in its first term , announced Shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek and Macquarie MP Susan Templeman last week ( 26 April ).
Speaking at Freemans Reach Public School , Ms Plibersek said the commitment will see ;
- $ 57,000 for playset equipment at Hobartville Public School ; - $ 30,000 for outdoor seating at
Windsor South Public School ;
- $ 15,000 for Freemans Reach Public School ’ s ‘ Freemans Fresh ’ Paddock to Plate Program .
“ Like kids right across Australia , these kids have had a tough two years … remote learning , cancelled events , missing friends - these families have endured two seasons of floods as well ,” Ms Plibersek said .
“ Labor ’ s $ 440 million plan to help kids bounce back will make sure schools in communities like this one are able to invest in infrastructure and upgrades to help kids learn and provide events and programs to boost kids ’ wellbeing .”
Being able to learn and play outdoors is important for children ’ s development , Ms Templeman said , welcoming the commitment to improve outdoor facilities at Hobartville and Windsor South .
“ A good education is the ticket to a lifetime of opportunity and being in a comfortable , enjoyable setting helps foster an environment that is conducive to learning ,” Ms Templeman said .
“ Freemans Reach Public School ’ s Freemans Fresh program is helping children learn about where their food comes from in a sustainable way , as well as teaching them about healthy food choices .
“ This funding will help the school develop its kitchen garden and associated projects .
“ It ’ s a great introduction to how food is produced both in Australia and globally . With so many agricultural opportunities right here in the Hawkesbury , this kind of program can potentially be the catalyst for an interest that turns into a life-long career .
“ I ’ m very proud Labor has committed to delivering this funding as soon as possible in its first term if elected to government in May .”
