Clearly severe weather cum natural disasters are part and parcel of living in the Hawkesbury , especially if you look at the last few years .
Last month we weathered a relentless rain bomb that ’ s saturated the eastern seaboard creating another devastating flood of the Hawkesbury-Nepean River , releases from Warragamba , bridges going under , land slips decimating our road network , school closures and the pot luck pothole dodge .
Our Facebook page is testament to the running commentary of flood news , events and pictures shared throughout this latest endurance test .
We all pull together . It ’ s what we do – cleaning , clearing , repairing , rebuilding , and can rethink or become aware of what we do in our local environment that affects our climate .
Yet again , our selfless emergency services , volunteers and charities came to the fore .
Hawkesbury MP Robyn Preston urges everyone to think about nominating a local hero from within our emergency service
HDI agencies , so we can formally give them a pat-on-the-back and the recognition they truly deserve for year-in year-out dedication . See story P7 .
April marks ANZAC Day , the solemn commemoration of all Australian and New Zealand servicemen and servicewomen who died in wars , conflicts , and peacekeeping operations .
RSL NSW is encouraging residents to attend their local RSL sub-Branch services instead of travelling about too far across town , so we can keep our older , most vulnerable veterans safe at local marches , wreath laying and services during the ongoing COVID pandemic . Dawn services are being held in McQuade Park Windsor , Richmond Park and a host of locations within the district . See pages 32-33 .
The Independent wishes a Happy Easter and school holidays to our readers , their families and the community . We hope it ’ s a joyous time for you with whomever you share it and make use of the free government vouchers to help support a Hawkesbury business too .
