RDA charity a winner at Hawkesbury races
A handsome $ 9000 was raised for Richmond ’ s Riding for the Disabled centre at its inaugural charity race day at Hawkesbury Racecourse . The inaugural Riding for the Disabled Richmond Charity Raceday was held at Hawkesbury Race Club on Thursday 24 March .
Solely operated by volunteers using funds and resources donated by supporters , Riding for the Disabled ( RDA ) plays a vital role in the community offering people with disability the opportunity to ride horses for therapeutic benefit and enjoyment .
“ We raised over $ 8000 for the RDA Richmond Centre with Hawkesbury Race Club making the pledge to top it up to $ 9000 ,” Race club acting CEO Lea Porteous said .
RDA ’ s Ian Travers was delighted by the amount of funds raised .
“ The money will go towards property maintenance and improving facilities such as water tanks and shade cloths ,” Mr Travers said .
Hawkesbury Race Club hopes this new partnership will become an annual charity race day event on its calendar to keep raising funds and awareness of the outstanding work RDA Richmond continues to provide in the community .
