Hawkesbury City Netball Association has announced long time sports volunteer , past vice president and life member , Vivienne Bertenshaw , as a patron of the association .
Viv joins current patron and life member Beatrice Bessell in this distinguished role , which recognises her tireless work and dedication to netball within the district .
Last year Viv was recognised for her outstanding 45 years ’ service with HCNA and local sport . She has chosen not to stand for executive positions in 2022 .

members both past and present , but we are extremely grateful for those years of volunteered service ,” HCNA said .
Meanwhile , after a few wash-out training and fitness sessions , the representative teams managed to secure an indoor training session at Hawkesbury PCYC in the lead up to their games at the weekend .
The PCYC session saw the 11 years development team absolutely “ smash it ” according to courtside attendees .
HCNA training and fitness indoor sessions at PCYC Windsor we well attended last month after several were cancelled due to the wet weather .

Penrith Panthers off to perfect start
The Penrith Panthers have done it again , winning the grand final rematch against the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday 1 April at their home ground .
Now bagging four wins in their first four games of 2022 , the Panthers , led by captain Nathan Cleary in his first game back since shoulder surgery , outplayed the Rabbits in a match that saw South ’ s prop Mark Nicholls out it the opening minutes and an eight-point try .
Lachlan Ilias made it an eight-pointer by leading a cover tackle with his legs , striking Panthers ’ Taylan May clear in the head on his second try of the night .
Despite Cleary missing two conversions , at half-time the Panthers were ahead 12-6 , by full-time the Bunnies fate was sealed , with the score 26-14 at the final bell .
With young Izack Tago firing in the centres and crafty back-up halfback Sean O ’ Sullivan , the Premiers have barely missed a beat since last season . The one man who has continued to stand up for his side is Cleary ’ s co-captain , Isaah Yeo , who leads the Dally M votes .
The Panthers took part in the opening match of the season as they hosted the Manly Sea Eagles in a highly-billed blockbuster . Penrith absolutely dominated terms in the match with the halves combination of Jarome Luai and O ’ Sullivan being reunited after they played together at more junior levels .
Tago scored the first try of the season while Stephen Crichton , Luai , Apisai Koroisau and Liam Martin also crossed the line in a 28-6 victory as they were rarely threatened by Manly . Dylan Edwards in particular was a standout performer , running for 344 metres off 31 runs .
Viliame Kikau , who is departing for the Bulldogs in 2023 , had an emotional week ahead of round 2 as he was surprised with a visit from his Fijian family members ahead of his milestone 100th NRL game . Kikau was on song for the occasion as he notched a double . Despite taking their foot off the gas in the second half , Penrith held out for a 20-16 victory over the St . George Illawarra Dragons at Kogarah .
With a 2 / 2 record at this stage the Panthers were hit with further injury news . James Fisher-Harris and Liam Martin suffered injuries to the shoulder and leg respectively and were forced to miss their round 3 clash with Newcastle . However it was Brian To ’ o ( knee ) and Moses Leota ( shoulder ) who were hit hardest with returns set for Round 9 and Round 10 .
Despite missing a number of their stars , Penrith still held firm as they hosted the Newcastle Knights in their annual trip to Bathurst . Taylan May , Chris Smith and J ’ maine Hopgood were the new faces in the side as a result of the injuries and they played their part .
Taylan May in particular was impressive , with the winger picking up a career-first hatrick . May formed an electric partnership on the left edge with Izack Tago who also bagged two tries himself . A try to Charlie Staines rounded off the game as Penrith won 38-20 to remain the only undefeated team so far .
After their game against the Rabbitohs , the mighty Panthers continue to sit top of the table alone after four rounds .
